Next Week Is Microsoft's Last Chance To Convince The World That Windows Still Matters

On Wednesday, Microsoft will show off Windows 10, the next version of its decades-old operating system.

There's a lot at stake. This may be Microsoft's last chance to prove to the world that Windows still matters.
A decade ago more than 90% of devices on the internet ran Windows. With the rise of smartphones, and tablets running smartphone operating systems like iOS and Android, that number is down to 15 percent. Developers had to develop for Windows if they wanted to make money. Now, it's one of many choices, and in mobile it's an afterthought.
In fact, the rise of mobile devices has made the entire idea of an operating system seem a lot less relevant. P eople don't buy an iPhone or iPad because it runs iOS, they buy it because it looks great in the store, feels great in their hands, is relatively easy to figure out, and runs the apps they need, which are easy to download and install.

WAVELENGTH: THE NEXT BIG THING IN ONLINE VIDEO SHARING

Wang, a longtime Wall Street analyst, has just launched Wavelength, a service that lets people share movies they own with their friends, over the Web, for free.

This is one of those ideas that tech folks love, because it takes a behavior that’s no big deal in the physical world — Want to borrow my “Star Wars” DVD? Come on over! — and extends it into the digital world.*

So far Wang, the former lead media and Internet analyst for Credit Suisse, hasn’t been able to get Hollywood to sign on to his boot-strapped company. But for now, he seems to be able to work without their blessing, since he’s playing by rules Hollywood created.

EARLY MORNING NEWSPAPER STAND ARGUMENT: WHY DO THEY DO IT?

Have you ever seen people (mostly men) gather at the newspaper stand every morning screaming their lungs to dryness, arguing over everything and anything...?

If you are a Nigerian, and you stay in Lagos (I don't know about other states)... your answer is most definitely going to be yes.

We see them every morning!

LUMIA 435 : CHEAPEST MICROSOFT PHONE - 20K

The first Lumia to shed the Nokia branding and wear Microsoft's name instead was the Lumia 535, a $130 phone that signalled an ambition to bring Windows Phone to a wider audience by lowering its price. Today continues that downward momentum with Microsoft's announcement of the Lumia 435 and Lumia 532, both measuring 4 inches in size and costing less
than $100 before the usual taxes and subsidies.

The Lumia 435 is the cheapest Lumia to date, priced at 69 euros (just over $80), but it still runs Windows Phone 8.1 with the Lumia Denim update and also comes with a decent 1GB of RAM and

HILARIOUS: SMUGGLER CAUGHT WITH 94 iPHONES TAPED TO HIS BODY

A smuggler has been detained in China with 94 iPhone handsets taped to his body.
The man's unusual posture as he walked caught the attention of customs officers in the city of Shenzhen as he tried to cross into China from Hong Kong on Sunday night, China's state media reported.

Reports indicate he looked as though he was weighed down with something heavy, despite only holding two plastic bags. When the airport-style metal detector sounded as he passed through he was stopped and searched.

PDO TUTORIAL SERIES 2

Before we continue with coding, i want to explain to you why you should switch to PDO with MYSQL instead of normal MYSQL.

Why PDO?

1. PDO is consistent no matter the database. The interface is consistent across multiple database. This basically means you use the same functions/methods no matter the database type you're working with.

WINDOWS 7 SUPPORT: WHAT HAPPENS ON JANUARY 13, 2015?

On January 13, Microsoft's mainstream support for Windows 7 Service Pack (SP) 1 ends.

Nobody panic. This does not mean Microsoft is going to stop issuing security fixes for Windows 7 SP1 tomorrow. Or anytime soon, for that matter.

"Mainstream support" is the period during which Microsoft provides for free security and non-security updates and telephone support for its products. "Extended support" -- the period during which Microsoft continues to provide for free security updates for products -- doesn't end until January 14, 2020 for Windows 7 SP1.

Tomorrow's support milestone for Windows 7 SP1 does not have implications for downgrade rights. Users will still able to buy a new PC with an OEM license for a business edition of Windows and then install an earlier version. PCs with Windows 8.1 Pro can be downgraded to Windows 7 Professional or Windows Vista Business. Microsoft volume licensees don't have to worry about their OEM's downgrade rights provisions; they have the right to downgrade to any prior version of Windows.

SIDE TUTORIAL: SOLUTION TO BROWSER COMPATIBILITY ... BROWSER DETECT FUNCTION WITH PHP

While working on  a website, i had a little challenge with browser compability, some pages were not displaying right in  chrome and IE, but worked perfectly in mozilla, so i needed to edit the css to suite IE and Chrome and yet i needed the website to work perfectly with mozilla. I didn't bother about safari, because safari and chrome use the same technology.

There might be better ways to achieve this, but the solution i came up with is what i am sharing in this post...
